Summer Safety Tips from Middletown Fire & Emergency Services

Summer is a season filled with outdoor fun, grilling, and family gatherings, but it also brings an increased risk of fires and heat-related emergencies. Middletown Township Fire & Emergency Services is here to help you enjoy a safe and healthy summer with these important reminders:

🔥 Grilling Safety

  • Keep grills at least 10 feet away from your home, deck railings, and overhanging branches.

  • Never leave a grill unattended while cooking.

  • Clean your grill regularly to prevent grease fires.

🔥 Fire Pits & Campfires

  • Always keep a hose or bucket of water nearby.

  • Never leave a fire unattended, and make sure it is fully extinguished before leaving.

  • Use dry, seasoned wood to reduce sparks.

🔥 Hydrant Awareness

  • Keep fire hydrants clear of tall grass, debris, and parked vehicles so firefighters can access them quickly in an emergency.

🔥 Heat Safety

  • Stay hydrated and avoid strenuous outdoor activities during extreme heat.

  • Check on elderly neighbors and loved ones during heat waves.

  • Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.

🔥 Fireworks Safety

  • Leave fireworks to the professionals and attend public displays.

  • Remember that consumer fireworks can cause serious injuries and fires.

🔥 Smoking Safety

  • Dispose of cigarette butts properly in a deep, sturdy ashtray.

  • Never discard lit cigarettes in mulch, grass, or from your vehicle.

🔥 Outdoor Equipment

  • Avoid using outdoor equipment that may spark during the hottest parts of the day, especially during dry conditions.

  • Keep lawns and vegetation trimmed to reduce fire hazards.

Your safety is our priority. By taking a few precautions, you can help protect your family, neighbors, and our community this summer.
