At the May 12, 2025 Board of Supervisors meeting, Middletown Township honored the remarkable career and lasting legacy of Township Manager Stephanie Teoli Kuhls, who is retiring from municipal management after 13 years of dedicated service to Middletown Township. Stephanie now looks forward to beginning her next chapter in the field of municipal consulting.

The meeting was filled with applause, laughter, and heartfelt reflections. Current and former township managers, representatives from the Pennsylvania Senate, and—most meaningfully—Stephanie’s friends and family shared stories of her impact. Their remarks painted a vivid picture of a leader who didn’t just manage a township, but shaped a culture of excellence and mentorship that will echo for years to come.

From her very first day, Stephanie fostered a culture of collaborative, resident-first government. She welcomed new ideas, guided young professionals through their early careers, and ensured that every voice—from interns to department heads—was heard and valued. Several speakers recalled how she “opened doors that once felt bolted shut,” creating opportunity and building confidence in those around her. Thanks to her leadership, Middletown has become not only a well-managed municipality, but a community where people are proud to live and work.

Saying goodbye to such an impactful manager is no small task. But Stephanie leaves Middletown in a strong position, with stable leadership, dedicated staff, and a clear path forward. The Board of Supervisors is currently interviewing candidates for the permanent Township Manager role. In the meantime, Assistant Township Manager Nick Valla has stepped in as Interim Township Manager to ensure a seamless transition.
