The World Meeting of Families will take place in Philadelphia beginning on September 22 and ending on September 25. The week will end with Pope Francis visiting Philadelphia on Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27. The Pope's visit is expected to draw a crowd of over one million people to downtown Philadelphia.

Middletown Township is playing an important role in this event. The Woodbourne train station will be the only train station operating along the West Trenton (R3) line on Saturday and Sunday for people wanting to go into downtown Philadelphia to see the Pope. SEPTA anticipates up to 10,000 train passengers per day, both Saturday and Sunday, coming to the Woodbourne station.

The township office of emergency management and the police department are coordinating planning for the weekend. The township is committed to ensuring the safety and well being of our residents, businesses, and visitors during that weekend.

It is very likely that a stretch of Woodbourne Road from the Oxford Valley Mall to Wood Lane will be closed during the weekend except for residents and businesses within the closed area. This will depend upon the number of train tickets sold. Due to very limited handicapped only parking at the train station that weekend, overflow parking for the train station will be at the Oxford Valley Mall.

Further information and updates will be made available on the township police department's Facebook page, Middletown Township's web site, the township cable channel, and through the Bucks County Courier Times and Levittown Now news agencies.
